The Effect of the Numbered Head Together (NHT) Cooperative Learning Model on Students’ Understanding of Science Concepts and Social Skills Grade V of Elementary School

Abstract


The study aims to determine the impact of the Numbered Head Together (NHT) learning model on understanding the concept of IPAS and the social skills of grade V elementary school students. This study used quantitative research using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. Two classes were trated: the first experimental class that used the NHT learning model, and the second, the control class, that used the lecture method. The population of this study was the entire high class of UPT SPF Labuang Baji II Elementary School. The sample for this study consisted of VA class students, who served as the control group, while VB class students were designated as the experimental group. The data analysis technique used prerequisite tests: normality, homogeneity, independent sample t-test, hypothesis test, and manova test. The results showed the impact of the NHT type cooperative learning model on: (1) understanding the concept of ipas, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. (2) students’ social skills are significant, with a significance value of 0.009 < 0.05. (3) the understanding of the concept of ipas and social skills of student simultaneously, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 with a predetermined statistical calculation.
