Abstract

Sociolinguistics is a scientific discipline that examines the use of language in society through a socio-cultural context approach. Code variations refer to other forms of language, dialect, variety, style, and speech level used by the speech community in interaction. Sinar Peninjauan District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, is one of the areas in South Sumatra Province that is inhabited by immigrants from Java Island and the Ogan Tribe as natives. This study aims to determine the variation of the code in the community in the Sinar Peninjauan District. The data is sourced from social interactions in the realm of buying and selling and from neighbors. The data was obtained by using the listen, record, and record method. The findings in the field indicate that the pattern of code variation in the social interaction of the people of the Sinar Peninjau District includes a single pattern, namely Javanese Krama, Javanese Ngoko, and Indonesian; then internal and external code-switching events; as well as mixing internal and external code.
