The Positive Impacts of Social Media Utilization by Waste Bank Communities in Enhancing Community Participation in Waste Management in Semarang City
Abstract
This article discusses the role of social media in enhancing public participation in addressing waste-related issues. The aim of this research is to explore how waste bank communities increase community involvement in waste management. A qualitative approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of social media in shaping environmental awareness. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of social media by waste bank communities is highly effective in increasing public participation, as it serves a strategic role as a tool for education, collaboration, and motivation. Through these platforms, the public gains accessible and relevant knowledge about daily waste management practices, leading to increased awareness and active involvement in waste handling and segregation from the household level. Ultimately, this fosters critical awareness and the development of environmental citizenship.
