The Use of Movie Clip to Increase Speaking Ability of The Second Grade Students of MA Khodimul Qur’an Sumbawa

Abstract

This study aims to find out how can the use of movie clip increase students' speaking  ability. In this study, the researcher used classroom action research as a research design with observation checklists and tests as data collection.The participants of the study were 20 students of the second grade of MA Khodimul- Qur’an Sumbawa Besar. The results showed that the use of movie clip  can increase  students'  speaking   ability. This can be seen from the significant increase in yield in each cycle. In this study, there were two cycles, namely, cycle 1 and cycle II. The results of students' scores before implementing movie clip  (pre-test) was 50, and after implementation, the student's score (post-test 1) was 73, and at (post-test II) 83. From the observations checklist in cycle I the result show that student’s observation cheklist in cycle I was 67 and in cycle II was 87. The use of a movie  clip also could improved students participation and more active during the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This means that students speaking   ability increases by using a movie  in the teaching and learning process in the second grade senior high school. This study suggests that the English teacher may improve her teaching strategy by optimizing the use of a variation media and technique in school. The teacher should be creative in delivering materials in class.
